About

Yefim Ashurov, Esq.
Founding Attorney — Ashurov Law Firm, PLLC
Yefim Ashurov, Esq., founding attorney of Ashurov Law Firm

I'm a New York personal injury attorney with eight years of litigation experience, both in and out of the courtroom. I've made court appearances in every borough — Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island — as well as on Long Island, drafted and argued countless motions, and taken hundreds of depositions over my legal career working at a busy law firm. Most lawyers know the law, but few have hands-on litigation and courtroom experience.

I built Ashurov Law Firm around a simple belief: every injured person deserves to be heard, understood, and represented. Too many accident victims get lost in the system, and I guide them through the legal process — often unfamiliar and overwhelming — so they get the chance to tell their story.

Every client is going through one of the hardest moments of their life, and I treat it that way. I listen closely, explain things clearly, and stay reachable when you need me. My job is to carry the burden of the legal process so you can put your energy into healing.

Personal Injury Cases We Handle

Car Accidents

Rear-end crashes, intersection collisions, sideswipes, drivers pulling out of parking spots, cars backing out of driveways — one moment of someone else's carelessness can upend your life. We handle your entire claim against the at-fault driver and their insurer, from the first call to the final settlement.

Hit & Run Accidents

Hit-and-run accidents leave victims dealing with unknown drivers and mounting questions. We investigate every available lead and pursue compensation through your own insurance coverage when the at-fault driver can't be identified.

Uber / Lyft Accidents

Uber, Lyft, and other rideshare accidents usually mean dealing with a messy web of insurance coverage. We cut through all that complexity and fight to get the most recovery possible for passengers and anyone else who got hurt.

Truck Accidents

Collisions involving cement mixers, box trucks, tractor-trailers, dump trucks, flatbeds, tanker trucks, and other large commercial vehicles result in severe and life-altering bodily injuries due to the tremendous size and force of these vehicles. We fight to hold them fully accountable.

Pedestrian Accidents

Struck in a marked or unmarked crosswalk, in the middle of the road, along the side of a parked car, or on a sidewalk? Pedestrian injuries are often severe and life-changing. We aggressively pursue the drivers, property owners, and insurers responsible.

Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists don't just face higher risks on the road — they also run into real bias once the insurance claims start. We fight hard for the full compensation a serious injury deserves.

Bicycle & Moped Accidents

Injured while riding a bicycle or moped after getting struck by a vehicle or doored by a careless driver? These crashes often leave riders with serious injuries. We fight hard to recover compensation for your medical bills, lost income, and the impact this has had on your life.

Premises Injuries

Icy steps, broken sidewalks, wet floors, staircase and stairwell falls, elevator and escalator accidents, dog bites, negligent security, falling objects, and other dangerous conditions on property throughout New York create real hazards that lead to painful, preventable injuries. Property owners have a clear legal duty to keep their premises safe — and when they fail, we fight to hold them fully accountable.

Construction Accidents

New York Labor Law §240 & §241 provide strong protections for construction workers injured on the job. We handle claims involving falls from scaffolding, ladders, collapsing floors, collapsing roofs, and other worksite accidents under these laws.

Workplace Injuries

Injured on the job? New York law provides strong protections for workers. We pursue both workers' compensation and third-party liability claims where applicable.

Wrongful Death

When negligence takes a loved one, the loss is absolute — a life ended too soon, a presence that can never return. We approach these cases with the care your family deserves and the quiet resolve to seek full accountability.

Mass Transit / NYC Vehicle Accidents

Involved in an accident with a New York City Transit vehicle, an official New York City vehicle, or a train accident? These accidents often involve large vehicles, powerful public agencies, and a claims process packed with strict deadlines and procedural hurdles. We navigate that complexity and fight hard for the full compensation passengers, pedestrians, and others hurt in the crash deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to hire a personal injury lawyer?

We work on a contingency fee basis, which means you pay nothing upfront and owe us nothing unless we recover money for you. Your free, confidential consultation carries no obligation.

What should I do immediately after an accident, and what evidence helps my case?

You should call 911 and seek medical attention right away, even if you feel fine — some injuries take time to appear. Document the scene and your injuries with photos, collect witness names and contact information, and avoid giving detailed statements to insurance companies before speaking with an attorney.

The stronger your evidence, the stronger your claim is likely to be. Helpful evidence may include:

  • Accident or police reports
  • Medical records and bills
  • Photographs and videos
  • Witness statements
  • Surveillance footage
  • Employment records showing lost wages

Preserving evidence as soon as possible after an accident can make it easier to prove liability and damages.

Do NOT admit fault or apologize at the scene. These statements can be used against you during negotiations.

How soon should I start preparing after a personal injury?

You should start preparing immediately after an injury, even if you have not yet decided whether to file a case. Early preparation helps you preserve evidence (photos, videos, witness information), establish a clear medical timeline, and significantly reduce the risk of losing important details.

How long do I have to file a personal injury claim in New York?

In most cases, New York gives you three years from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit, though claims against city or public agencies have much shorter notice deadlines — sometimes as little as 90 days. It's important to speak with an attorney as soon as possible so no deadline is missed.

What if the accident was partly my fault?

New York recently changed this rule for car, truck, and motorcycle accident cases. Under the old rule, you could recover something even if you were mostly at fault. Now, under a new law (C.P.L.R. § 1411(b)), if a jury finds you more than 50% at fault in a motor vehicle accident, you cannot recover any compensation at all. Because of this change, it's more important than ever to have strong legal representation early on to protect your share of fault.

What is no-fault insurance, what does it cover, and who is covered?

New York is a "no-fault" state, which means that after a motor vehicle accident, your own auto insurance pays for your medical treatment, a portion of your lost wages, and other reasonable expenses through Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits — no matter who caused the crash. No-fault benefits are separate from any lawsuit against the at-fault driver. It's important to file a no-fault application within 30 days of the accident, to protect your right to these benefits. See 11 NYCRR § 65-1.1.

The following individuals are generally covered under New York's no-fault policy:

  • The named insured and all relatives living in the same household
  • Passengers in the covered vehicle at the time of the accident
  • Pedestrians struck by the covered vehicle
How much is my case worth?

Every case is different. Value depends on factors like the severity of your injuries, medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and who was at fault. We can give you a realistic assessment after reviewing the details of your accident and injuries during a free consultation.

What is considered a "serious injury" under New York law?

New York Insurance Law § 5104(a) bars a lawsuit for non-economic damages in a car accident case unless the injured person has sustained a "serious injury" as defined by § 5102(d). If your injury falls into one of the eight statutory categories, you step outside the no-fault system and can pursue a claim against the driver who hurt you. If your injury does not fall into one or more of these categories then you are limited to your no-fault benefits.

An injury still qualifies as serious if it involves any of the following:

  • Death of the injured person
  • Dismemberment or loss of a limb
  • A bone fracture, such as a broken arm, leg, or tooth
  • Significant disfigurement, such as severe scarring
  • Loss of a fetus, recognized as its own category
  • Permanent loss of use of a body organ, member, function, or system
  • Permanent consequential limitation of use of a body organ or member
  • Significant limitation of use of a body function or system

Injuries that once qualified through the 90/180-day rule no longer qualify as a serious injury on their own. This change applies to actions commenced on or after May 26, 2026.

How long does a personal injury case take?

There's no one-size-fits-all answer. Some claims wrap up in a matter of months — others, especially when liability is disputed or an injury requires ongoing treatment, can take a year or longer to reach full value. The timeline depends on how complex your case is, how serious your injuries are, and whether a lawsuit becomes necessary to get you a fair outcome. Tell us the details of your accident and we'll give you a realistic timeline during your free consultation.
